Training
Select security guard applicants are interviewed to determine motivation, expectations, background experience and general suitability. If they pass this initial screening, they are invited to attend the Commissionaire Qualifying Course. This 7 day course exceeds the Manitoba Justice Security Guard Training Program standards and provides security guards with the concepts and knowledge to function effectively and efficiently on the job. The course also provides an opportunity for the full cadre of instructors to further assess the candidates.

Background checks are conducted including a Criminal Records Check (commonly referred to as CPIC) and a Federal Government Enhanced Reliability Check. The federal security screening will range from Enhanced to Security Level 3 dependant upon the requirements of the post. Only then, would an applicant be invited to join the Commissionaires.

Once a candidate has been invited to join, they are assigned to a “Spares” list where they are provided with short-term assignments in order to consolidate their training, gain experience and develop strengths. Only after this phase are they assigned to a “full time” site.

Staff will receive operational site specific training covering the details of their post. They may also receive additional specialized training if required to perform their job.

For those Commissionaires who would be considered for supervisory positions, there are two levels of Supervisory courses available; Shift Leaders Course and Supervisors Course with the latter being more comprehensive.

Additionally, staff receive new training when new processes and services are introduced.
