Upon successful completion of the Commissionaires Qualifying Course, candidates will be trained to properly to:
- Deal with the public in a professional and ethical manner;
- Engage with a difficult individual using conflict management skills thereby creating opportunities for them to cooperate;
- Arrest people within the limits specified under the Criminal Code of Canada and be aware of the rights and freedoms of individuals;
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Present verbal and material evidence in Court;
- Write reports, protect evidence and conduct themselves appropriately in court;
- Direct traffic;
- Provide Emergency First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator services;
- Detect or prevent thefts and vandalism;
- Report and deal appropriately with perimeter protection systems, intrusion, fire, carbon dioxide, water, smoke alarms etc;
- React and take appropriate measures in all emergency situations;
- Respond to bomb threats; and
- Perform other duties as required of a security guard.
